| How Shipping Works: I purchase shipping boxes from Superior Enterprises. The boxes are made specifically for shipping reptiles. The boxes are lined with styrofoam. I further pack the boxes with either styrofoam peanuts or shredded newspaper for shock absorbancy. When necessary, I use heat packs & cool packs to provide the reptiles with appropriate temperatures during transit. |

| What to Expect when the Package
Arrives: Carefully open the box. You will find the snakes inside a double-stitched bag, custom-made for snakes. The opening of this 'snake bag' is secured with zip ties, which have to be cut to be removed. PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Do not accidentally cut the snake(s) when using scissors or a knife. You should have your snake's new home ready-to-go (water bowl, substrate, heat, etc). I recommend practicing strict quarantine procedures to prevent any problems. Simply ask me if you need help/advice in this area. Also, I do NOT recommend keeping animals together in one enclosure. This can be very stressful for them. I have always kept my snakes in separate enclosures. When you place your new snake(s) in their new home(s), leave them alone for 24-48 hours. DO NOT HANDLE THEM! As tempting as it can be, they could still be stressed from the shipping process. After 2 days, you can offer the snake a small meal. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions. |
If
shipping snakes in cold weather, it is best to use heat packs.
This heatpack will reach temperatures between 110-135
degrees F for 35 hours or more. When shipping in hot weather, I use
cool packs when needed! | I
wrap the heat pack with newspaper or cloth & secure it into a
corner position so it will not move during transit. Wrapping the heat
pack is very important. I have received dead snakes from sellers
who placed the poor snakes directly on a heat pack. This will literally
cook the snake. |
I
then place the snake(s) in custom, double-stitched snake bag. I
position the bag across as much area as possible so the snake(s) can
thermoregulate and move towards (or away from) the warm corner where
the heat pack lies. | I secure the snake bag with plastic zip ties. The only way to remove these is to cut them. BE CAREFUL when using a knife or scissors to remove it. DO NOT accidentally cut the snake(s). |
Here
is a close-up shot of the snake bags used. I used to purchase them.
However, I now custom stitch my own (I know, I know). You can see
the top stitch in white thread and the bottom stitch is in red thread. | Once
the snake(s) are placed into the bag, I then add another layer of
styrofoam packaging peanuts OR shredded newspaper (not pictured).
Also note how the box is lined with 1/2 inch styrofoam. In the
above case, I have double-lined the left & right sides with
styrofoam for added insulation when shipping in extra cold weather.
|
Just
prior to closing & taping the box, you can see how there is a top
sheet of styrofoam added. These boxes are purchased from Superior
Enterprises and made/designed for use when shipping live reptiles.
I am FedEx approved/certified to ship live reptiles. The
certification process takes a while but I highly recommend doing it for
the safety of the animals. To this date, I have NEVER (knock on
wood) had a problem with shipping through FedEx. | |
